Kao Sutton Headed to NCAA Championships

2014 Mar 13

A record-breaking indoor season for the Carleton College women's indoor track and field team continues as six members of the squad have the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships on March 14-15. This year's national meet is being hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan. Carleton is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and NCAA Division III.

Kao Sutton, a resident of Hilo, Hawaii, graduated from Kamehameha Schools Hawaii and is currently a senior at Carleton. Sutton has been breaking school records in the shot put all season, and the MIAC Championships were no exception. She picked up All-MIAC recognition for her performance in the shot put and finished second with a distance of 13.85 meters. Sutton now ranks eighth in Division III this season.

The Knights placed third out of twelve teams, finishing with 110 points. "This team gave it their all," said Carleton head coach Donna Ricks. "I couldn't have asked for one more thing from them. They gave every ounce of energy that they had and put their heart and soul into the meet. For us to finish third given the smaller size of our squad was an incredible feat. I'm at a loss for words."

Founded in 1866, Carleton College is a national top 10, private liberal arts college in the historic river town of Northfield, Minnesota, 45 miles south of Minneapolis/Saint Paul.
