Kaopua Nani O Sutton of Hilo, HI, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology from Carleton College during its 140th Commencement ceremony, held on Saturday, June 14.

Sutton is the daughter of Robert and Kristen Sanborn of Hilo.

Two seniors spoke at the ceremony. Grace Jaffe, a mathematics major from Chicago, Ill. presented a speech entitled "Getting Back Up," and Mitchell Campbell, a psychology major from Superior, Wis. gave a speech entitled "A Community of Trust, an Empire of Memories."

Carleton also presented an honorary degree during the commencement ceremony to professor David R. Loy '69, a prolific author and a Zen teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan tradition of Japanese Zen Buddhism. Loy briefly addressed the graduating class, as did Carleton College's eleventh president Steven Poskanzer.

High academic standards, an excellent teaching faculty and a diverse student body contribute to Carleton's outstanding reputation.
