Shannon Holden Earns All-Conference Honors

2014 May 20

Following the conclusion of the 2013-2014 golf season, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) office announced post-season awards. Shannon Holden (Fy./Simi Valley, Calif. /Royal High School) was one of six Carleton golfers to earn All-MIAC honors. The all-conference team is composed of the top 10 players (including ties) from the MIAC Championships, as well as up to five players voted on by the coaches.

Along with her All-Conference award, Holden was named rookie of the year after her stellar season. She led the MIAC in scoring average at 79.0, a new Carleton single-season record. The freshman sensation won the MIAC Championships by three strokes back in October and added five other top-five finishes in 10 tournaments this season. She never lost to a single MIAC opponent, other than a fellow teammate, after September 22. She is the third Carleton player to earn MIAC rookie of the year honors, joining Hope Keaney '13 (2009-10) and Gina Kabasakalis '15 (2011-12).

For the second time in his career, head coach Eric Sieger was voted as MIAC coach of the year, sharing the award with Sara Evens of St. Thomas. The Knights finished runner-up by a single shot to the Tommies at the MIAC Championships, set a new school record with a 323.9 stroke average, set new teams records throughout the season for lowest 18-, 36- and 54-hole team scores, and won their final two events of the season (Carleton Invitational, Blugold Spring Invitational). The Knights led the conference in scoring average and finished the regular season ranked 13th in the Women's Golf Coaches Association/Golf World poll. It's the second time Sieger has been named conference coach of the year, as he won the award in 2007-08.
