Shannon Holden Helps Knights Finish Second at MIAC Championships

2014 Jan 16

Shannon Holden, a first-year at Carleton College and graduate of Royal High School, helped the women's golf team finish second at the 2013 MIAC Championships. Holden is the daughter of Kevin and Mary Holden.

One shot was all that separated the Knights from a first place finish and automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. After three days of solid play, Carleton finished one shot behind the University of St. Thomas, despite shattering their previous 54-hole record by 25 strokes. "It was an unbelievable weekend of golf with both teams playing at such a high-level," Carleton head coach Eric Sieger said. Carleton is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and NCAA Division III.

The Knights placed four individuals inside the top 10, including Holden who became Carleton's first individual conference title winner with a 3 day total of 229. Other top 10 finishers included Kelsey Moede in sixth place, Grace Gilmore one shot back in seventh, and Geraldine Tellbuescher in a tie for tenth. Rounding out Carleton's team of five was Mara Daly, an veteran of the MIAC Championships. Holden, Moede, Gilmore and Tellbuescher were named to the MIAC's All-Championship team and will automatically earn All-MIAC honors when the post-season awards are announced in the spring.

The Knights spring season debut will be March 29th, in Pacific Grove, Calif., as they try to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.
