Sophie Glassford Leads Carleton Women's Cross Country to MIAC Championship Title

2014 Nov 3

Sophie Glassford (Jr./Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) helped lead the Carleton College women's cross country team to it's second straight MIAC Championship Crown. This was the Knights' seventh overall MIAC title (1991, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2014) and third over the last four years. Carleton is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and NCAA Division III.

Carleton placed a trio of runners in the top 10 and all five scorers among the top 15 finishers as each member of the quintet takes home All-MIAC distinction.

"The MIAC Championships are a celebration of running," said Carleton head coach Donna Ricks. "It is a time to recall all of the miles and the hard workouts the team has accomplished together. This meet we run for one another. I am so proud of this team. They were focused and ran with purpose. Almost the entire team ran personal best performances."

No. 18-ranked St. Olaf was second at 58 points, with No. 24 St. Thomas edging No. 22 Saint Benedict, 94-100 for a distant third place.

"Like all teams, you face challenges throughout the season, and to bring it together on this particular day is a tremendous accomplishment, especially with four teams ranked nationally."

The Knights will take part in the annual Karhu Shoe Race against St. Olaf on Nov. 6. Then they will turn their attention to the NCAA Central Regional Championships to be held in Pella, Iowa, with the national meet to be held the following Saturday in Ohio.
